Sell Your Books

Done with your textbooks? We buy them back. Bring them in to the store or sell online if you're off campus — and put some cash back in your pocket.

On Campus

Sell your books in store

Book buyback takes place at the Torero Store during designated periods each semester — typically at the end of the term. Check back closer to finals for exact dates and hours, or watch for an email from the store.

01
Gather your books
Bring any textbooks you'd like to sell. Books in better condition typically receive higher offers. Make sure to remove any personal notes or markings where possible.
02
Bring them to the store
Visit the Torero Store during buyback hours with your books and your USD ID. Our staff will look up each title and give you an offer on the spot.
03
Get paid
Accept the offer and get paid immediately. Payment is issued in cash.
When is buyback? Buyback periods are announced each semester as finals approach. Check store hours or watch for communications from the Torero Store as the end of term nears.

Off Campus

Distance learners: sell online

If you don't attend classes on campus, you can still sell your books back through our online buyback portal. Get a quote, ship your books, and receive payment — all without coming in to the store.

Not sure if you qualify? The online buyback option is available for students who do not attend classes on the USD campus. If you have questions about eligibility or the process, contact us and we'll help.

What to Expect

How buyback pricing works

Buyback offers are determined by current market demand. Here's what affects the value of your books.

Demand drives value
Books adopted for next semester's courses are in highest demand and typically receive the best offers. Books no longer in use may receive lower offers or none at all.
Condition matters
Books in good condition — intact covers, no excessive highlighting or writing, no water damage — receive better offers than heavily worn copies.
Timing is everything
Selling earlier in the buyback window gives you a better shot at the full offer before limits are reached. Once a title's quota is filled, we may not be able to purchase additional copies.
No obligation. You're never required to accept a buyback offer. If the price doesn't work for you, you're welcome to take your books back and explore other options.

Rental Returns

Returning a rented textbook

Return your rental by the deadline
Your rental return deadline is printed on a sticker on the back of the book — check there first.

If you rented a textbook through the Torero Store, it must be returned by the end-of-semester rental return deadline. Rental return deadlines are announced each semester — watch for communications from the store as the end of term approaches, or contact us to confirm your deadline.

Late returns may be subject to fees. If you'd like to keep your rental, you may have the option to purchase it outright — ask a staff member at the store or contact us for details.
Distance learners: If you rented a book and need to return it but can't come to campus, contact us before the deadline so we can arrange a return option for you.
